Vision:

• The Wi-Fi hotspots are aimed at providing the Internet access to citizens at public places.

Objectives:

The main objective of the project is to establish and provide Public Internet Access infrastructure to its citizens, Tourists, students and empower them as netizens by providing reliable and convenient Internet Wi-Fi connectivity at cities. In addition to the above this project will help to enable and spread the following:

• Internet access facility
• Education and Digital Literacy
• Quick Access to Information
• Awareness and the information exchange digitally
• Convergence and utilization of the Government Services to its Citizens

Project Description:

Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat has executed the project for Providing Wi-Fi services on Service/Rental Model Including (Design, Built, and Operations & Management) for State-wide Public Wi-Fi Hotspot’s under Gujarat State Urban Area Network (GSUAN), across the state of Gujarat.

The project requires, setting up of Wi-Fi infrastructure at locations such as City Bus Stand/Depot, Nagarpalika, Mamlatdar Office, TDO office, District/Taluka Court, District/Taluka Library, Civil Hospital through deployment of wireless Access Point’s for providing internet access. The project shall Initially cover 55 cities of the State and approximately 5 to 7 public Wi-Fi Hotspot’s in each city.

The project is based on the service model wherein service provider is providing Wi-Fi Services through such Hotspots which shall include all required Hardware, software and internet bandwidth.

Present status: 55 cities of the State has been covered with 312 nos. of Hotspot and 1426 nos. of Access points.

Benefits Accrued:

Beneficiaries getting free Public Wi-Fi service at locations such as City Bus Stand/Depot, Nagarpalika, Mamlatdar Office, TDO office, District/Taluka Court, District/Taluka Library, Civil Hospital.
